Night vision potions have sharp gloom cutoff
Issue: Night vision potions cause lower-lit regions to be red-shaded as intended, but when light levels reach the gloom point, a sharp cutoff is observed. Example: http://i.imgur.com/q2RWxUX.png Installed mods: BTW version 4.99999A0Fb Marsupial!?!?, survival mode MCPatcher version 4.2.2, no tweaks e...

Re: Fishing Pier
I had a similar design in one of my earlier bases, but the squid didn't pose too much of an issue; When they did get in the way, it was infrequent enough to not be a significant nuisance; the video depicts an extreme case. And now that HC brewing needs squid glands to make healing potions, using you...

I have to say, I REALLY like the look of bookshelves descending into darkness. When I get to the point of having an infernal library in my world, I'll have to keep that aesthetic in mind ;)

Looking around on my computer, I think I found a version of your pack from August 3rd, 2012, as well as one from January 2nd 2013, if those would be of any use to you. In the future, I'll be more diligent about keeping extra copies of TP's, etc. of whatever I'm using. It's good that you found the te...

Oh man! Many thanks, Anbaric, for updating my favorite texture pack :-)
Unfortunately, I don't have much time to play right now and my current base isn't much to look at yet, but I'll post screenshots of your pack when I have them. Regardless, much appreciated! :D

Re: Tips for Caving?
I recommend reckless abandon and exploring abandoned mineshafts with a minimal of equipment. This never ends badly. Nor does running into a nearby jungle in the early game to loot a temple :) Oh, definitely! Also, if you ever get the chance, loot every witch hut you see when you immediately see it....

Re: Tips for Caving?
Another unrelated tip: At all times when it is possible, have an escape route already in mind. For instance, when I enter a passage I previously walled off, I typically only break one block of the barrier to enter; this is because I may need to run back out and seal it if there's a creeper around t...

Ingredients by themselves are 0.5 for the 3 mushrooms, 1.5 for the egg, and 2.5 for the porkchop. Making the omelet gives 4 pips and 2.5 left over. Making the ham n eggs gives 6 pips and 0.5 left over... The hunger value for the ingredients of a mush. omelette is 1.5 (egg) + .5 (mushroom), for a to...

Re: What's your door? - Base entrance thread
I use a wooden door with a torch-gravel deadfall on top to trap, crush, and seal out any intruders while I'm not attending the door. I've also taken to digging 2-wide, 2-deep trenches around my base entrance with a 2-trapdoor "Drawbridge". Especially with a water source nearby, this can tu...

Re: Cheating - Discussion
Way back when, some of the first forays into BUDs used a water source block next to a hole, so when updated, the water would then flow into the hole, lifting a boat off a wooden pressure plate, causing a signal change. This could then be reset with pistons, toggling the signal back to the default st...

Might be handy as I can't test a Linux install. Gladly, but the process is largely identical. Everything in your instructions applies to Linux...

At least in my self-compiled fresh-from-git 64-bit linux version, it seems the lwjgl and jinput libraries are inside jar files within the "libraries" directory, jwjgl found under "libraries/org/lwjgl/lwjgl/lwjgl-platform/2.9.0/lwjgl-platform-2.9.0-natives-linux.jar" and jinput f...

Re: Cocoa Farm
I would like to note that "totem poles" of cocoa beans have a higher surface area for farming than a wall does, as jungle wood in the early game is somewhat harrowing to acquire, and grant more farmable space per log anyways.

Re: Double, double, toil and trouble (witches)
Oh man, witches. The first "night", which wasn't really a night due to an early rainstorm, had me cowering, hungering in the church of an abandoned village I found right at my spawn point. I distinctly remember the whine of the witch outside who had wandered in from the nearby swamp, which...

Helpful information to include with this would be: * What is the file called? * Does anything at all visibly happen when you try to interact with the file? * When did you notice the file was "Ghosting"? * Does interacting with it in the terminal yield any useful messages? * If you're able ...

In true icy fashion, while traveling through a nearby swamp, I saw a witch hut, scouted it, and looted the cauldron and brewing stand. This made me happier than it had right to. Let's see, next on the list is going into abandoned mineshafts, then exploring the ocean floor for cave entrances, and af...

Ooh! Ooh! I propose that Minecraft is a computer simulation, and that mobs are unable to spawn on slabs because they don't qualify as solid blocks, as the method for spawning require them to be placed on a solid block.

Re: Managing security at bases
Even for early hole-in-the-wall bases, there are tips and tricks that really reduce the tension of the first few nights. In particular, grates, crafted with 4 sticks, make fantastic early-game windows by letting in the moonlight without letting arrows or wolves in, which really helps before you have...
