Pumpkins are large orange gourds that grow horizontally from mature pumpkin plants, which grow in hydrated farmland from pumpkin seeds. Wild Pumpkins are rarely found naturally in plains biomes outside the abandoned village spawn radius (further than 2500 blocks away from spawn). Pumpkins can be harvested as a block with an axe.

Pumpkins are subject to gravity, and will break into four pumpkin seeds if they fall some distance (possible at 5 blocks, guaranteed at 15). They are primarily used for farming seeds for chicken feed, and for the creation of carved pumpkins.

Keep In Mind

  • Carved pumpkins replace intact pumpkins inside the abandoned village spawn radius in plains biomes, and cannot be harvested for seeds.
  • Pumpkin plants will only grow pumpkins on adjacent solid surfaces. Farmland is not necessary for the ground surrounding a plant, and will convert to dirt if a Pumpkin spawns on it.
  • If the Pumpkin stem tries to grow on a side that is blocked, it will not grow a Pumpkin at all, and will try again only after some time. This means that a stem that can grow on all 4 sides will grow faster than if it's limited to less than 4.
  • If all 4 sides around the stem are blocked when the plant tries to grow a Pumpkin, it will grow on top of the stem and crush it, and will need to be replanted with a seed.
  • Pumpkins can grow onto adjacent stems as well
