Moss Stone (previously known as Mossy Cobblestone) is a block that was first introduced in Survival Test and remains in all later versions of the game. It looks like Cobblestone, but with moss growing on it. Like Cobblestone, on the upper left, there is an 'L' that points to the north and east. Their only use is for construction - often used in combination with normal Cobblestone for decoration purposes, such as to make buildings look older or to make Nether portals more eerie. Moss Stone can be found naturally in Dungeons or in Jungle temples.

Moss Stone uses a pattern similar to that of Netherrack, but with different color schemes, Moss Stone being gray with green moss, and Netherrack being bright-red with dark-red areas.

Moss stone is a vanilla Minecraft block that looks like cobblestone with moss growing on it. It can be found in dungeons and jungle temples. The vanilla Minecraft crafting recipe for moss stone will not work in Better Than Wolves (it was added in version 1.8).

In Better Than Wolves, cobblestone in the vicinity of a monster spawner will slowly turn into moss stone, which makes it possible to farm moss stone. The area of this effect around monster spawners is roughly the same size of dungeons (just slightly wider).

Trivia

  • It is interesting to note that while in Beta 1.7, Cobblestone patterning changed, Moss Stone's texture remained until Beta 1.8. Also, in Beta 1.7, not only did the contrast change, the top and bottom halves of the texture were swapped. This did not happen to the Moss Stone texture; only the contrast was changed before adding moss.
  • Strangely enough, if using English (UK) or Canadian English (CA) language, Moss Stone is still called Mossy Cobblestone.
  • In Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Moss Stone is in Creative mode, but is unobtainable in Survival mode.
