The Iron Pickaxe is the first tool that can be used to mine Strata 2 stone, opening up the ability to go caving deeper.
It is required in order to mine Diamond ores and make a Diamond Pickaxe.
Like all Iron tools, it has slightly better speed and durability than stone tools, and requires a Crafting Table to make.
It can be smelted in a Crucible to recycle 2/3 of the Iron cost, which is why experienced players will store depleted tools in the early game, which is made easier by the ability to place tools in block form by holding crtl + right clicking on an appropriate surface. Pickaxes can be placed in any block they can mine.

Keep in Mind
- Faster than a Stone Pickaxe.
- Has 500 uses.
- Does 2 hearts of damage per hit.
- Loses 2 uses for each hit when used as a weapon, like all tools.
