Sheep are passive mobs that spawn un world generation, or upon the generation of newly explored chunks. Sheep can spawn in most biomes except for deserts, and are the main source of Wool and Raw Mutton. They come in a variation of colors.
For more details about the overall changes to animals and how to farm them, see Animal Tweaks.

Appearance
Most sheep upon natural generation have white wool. Others can naturally spawn in black, gray, light blue, light gray, brown, pink or lime wool. They have light tan skin and are wall-eyed and have a pink square marking on their face; whether this is the mouth or the nose is unknown.
Behavior
Sheep will wander around and eat Grass. If a block nearby gets broken or placed or a nearby animal gets attacked, they'll quickly try to flee. They will follow the player around if they're holding Tall Grass, Wheat, Straw or Pumpkin Pie. Sheep will eat a rather large amount of food, though not as much as cows, and will slowly looking hungrier and hungrier until they die if not given enough food. If they're sheared, they'll only regrow their wool while fully fed, once every day (24000 ticks).
Usage
Sheep can be used as a food source, for wool production (By shearing them), and a form of early-game protection. The Raw Mutton they drop can be cooked over a Campfire, in a Brick Oven or in a Cauldron into Cooked Mutton which replenishes 2 shanks of hunger. The Wool can be used in combination with Knitting Needles to produce Wool Knit which can be used to make Tuques, Wool Jackets and Wool Britches, all of which give half a point of armor. The Wool can also be combined with a Block of Wicker to make a Wool Block, but this serves no gameplay purpose other than aesthetics.
Breeding & Farming
Sheep require Pumpkin Pie to breed. After being fed, they'll enter a breeding state (indicated by red-heart particles) where they'll look for another nearby sheep that's also in breeding state. After having successfully bred they'll create a baby and will be unable to breed for 5 minutes. If they don't manage to find a partner while in a breeding state then they'll return back to their normal state after some time. Successful breeding may result in mutations to the offspring's wool coloring as per Hardcore Sheep.
- Baby sheep move faster than adult sheep and take about 20 minutes to fully grow. They do not drop anything when killed, nor can they be sheared.
- A Breeding Harness will worth with sheep.
Farming
Trapping a sheep or two in enclosed area and breeding them can be beneficial to the player. While mutton isn't the most saturating meat in the early game, in the late-game it can be combined with Carrots, Brown Mushrooms, and a Shaft to create a Kebab, which are an excellent food source. Wool is also a key ingredient in Padding, which is used to make Padded Armor, Steel Armor Plates, and Beds. Each sheep needs about a 5x5 plot of grass to be able to stay full. So for 4 sheep, a 10x10 plot is needed, as you breed them you will need to increase your farm, or kill sheep accordingly. If sheep do not have enough room to graze, they will starve to death.
- Sheep will attempt to re-grow their wool-coat once every in-game day after being sheared (24000 ticks). A sheep will loose its coat while it is hungry, or starving. The coat will not grow back until the sheep is full again for an in-game day.
Colors of sheep
Natural (in order of rarity)
Hardcore Sheep
Hardcore Sheep is a gameplay modification to the way sheep shearing and breeding works:
- Sheep have a "natural" wool color. If a sheep is sheared it will regrow its natural color, and not its dyed color.
- Additionally, sheep can spawn with non-vanilla spawn colors.
- When two sheep of the same natural color are bred, the child's natural color will be the same as the parents' (unless a mutation occurs, see below).
- When two sheep of different natural colors are bred, the child's natural color will be the same as one of the parents', or a combination of the two (see below) (unless a mutation occurs, see below).
When breeding any pair of sheep, there is a 1% chance of a rare mutation, within that 1%, these are all equally likely:
- Light Blue
- Lime
- Pink
There is also a 3% chance of a Black sheep.
There is a 20% chance that the sheep will be a blend of the parents (see below)
And 38% chance each of it matching the parents color
Blending
When breeding sheep there is a 20% chance the child color will be blend of the parents:
If there isn't a specified blend, the baby's color is a 50-50 shot from the parents.
If the parents are black and white, there is a 50-50 shot of the baby ending up gray or light gray.
If a blend happens, it's
Specified Blends:
- Black + Light Gray -> Gray
- Gray + White -> Light Gray
- Black + Light Blue -> Blue
- Black + Lime -> Green

- Red + Light Blue -> Magenta
- Black + Magenta -> Purple
