Beacon
The Beacon is an advanced and powerful arcane focus used to provide both a unique landmark, and give a persistent magical area of effect to the surrounding region and its inhabitants. It is activated by placing it as the final block on top of a pyramid formation of blocks, with different types of blocks having a different effect. The smallest pyramid that can be made to work with the beacon block has 1 level and consists of 9 mineral blocks, and the largest has four levels of 164 blocks.
The beacon will then emit a light blue beam of light into the sky. The range of these effects varies with the pyramid size. All players within range will have the chosen effect applied every few seconds, but when players move out of range, the effect will expire within 4–8 seconds.

Usage
Beacons require the same material throughout the pyramid. The pyramid material determines the beacon effect, and additional tiers increase the range and strength of the effects. Some beacon types may also cause side effects to occur while a beacon is active.

Example
Here's a max lvl Steel Beacon, which is the only way to set your spawn point, like a vanilla bed would. But in BTW it's pretty much the last thing you can build, and requires hundreds of hours to make.
It also comes with a drawback, in the form of Blight.
Keep in Mind
- Beacon blocks can see through Glass, which allows for underground beacons without obstructing the beam.
- In the Nether, Beacon Blocks need to be able to see bedrock in order to function.
- Iron beacons have a stronger effect than others, but all beacons generate a field which the compass will point towards. The only exception is the glass beacon, since it is strictly decorative.
