Cobblestone is a common block used for building. It comes in two forms: the most common one, the Loose Cobblestone form that it is susceptible to gravity, and the normal form.
Right clicking a loose block with mortar in your hand (such as clay, slimeball or nether sludge) will turn that block into its normal, gravity-defying form.
Obtaining
Normal (non-loose) cobblestone can only be obtained in the inventory using a Block Dispenser or the Silk Touch enchantment.
Mortaring can be used to convert placed loose cobblestone to the non-loose version. This is achieved by right-clicking the loose cobblestone with mortar (either Clay, Slimeball, or Nether Sludge).

Natural Generation
Cobblestone occurs naturally as part of some structures such as Villages, Jungle temples and dungeons.
Usage
- Cobblestone (both the loose and regular version) that is within a certain distance of a Monster Spawner is converted to Mossy Cobblestone over time.
Keep in Mind
- When placing loose cobblestone next to non-loose cobblestone, the loose cobblestone will float for a couple seconds before falling. This gives the player a chance to mortar it before it falls.
